Modern Art…Cars…in Popular Culture MPR
July 21, 2025 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Join Matthew Donahue from The Ohio Humanities for a night of car talk, highlighting the modern art and outsider art movement of the art car and how the art car is intrinsically linked to popular culture. An art car is a modern art movement in which artists use the automobile as a canvas for artistic expression. The art car is associated with the 1960s during the rise of the pop art movement and since then the art car has developed into a modern art force with exhibitions taking place all across the United States and in galleries and museums.
Presenter, Dr. Matthew Donahue, artist, musician, filmmaker and teaching professor from the Department of Popular Culture at Bowling Green State University is a long time art car artist, creating over 20 different art cars and exhibiting his art cars at exhibitions and museums all across the country.
