The State Library of Ohio, in collaboration with Ohio Ready to Read, offers Day By Day Ohio. The Day By Day Ohio Family Literacy Calendar can be used at home, in the classroom, or on the go. The calendar features songs, activities, book suggestions, and videos, supporting early literacy skills.
TumbleBooks
TumbleBookLibrary is an online collection of e-books for children. There are over 250 animated, talking picture books! The site also features Spanish and French books, read-along chapter books, non-fiction books, and exciting games and puzzles! You can access materials without having to login as long as you use the link above. If you want to use the TumbleBookLibrary App, you’ll need to login using your library card.

Genealogy and Local History Research and Resources
Newspapers
Local newspapers from 1862-2020 have now been digitized and are searchable. A microfilm reader and computer are also available in the Marvin Room. Search the digitized newspaper archive.
Chronicling America provides free online access to over 17 million digitized historic newspaper pages covering 1789-1963 from over 50 U.S. states and territories. Check out these high quality, full-text searchable, public domain newspaper pages at chroniclingamerica.loc.gov!

We provide searches for obituaries with an exact date of death. Obituaries can be scanned and emailed (preferred method as no postage is required), or mailed. $.10/copy +postage.

Genealogy
The library maintains a reference section in the Marvin Room which is located in the lower level of the library. The collection contains books of land records, births, deaths, census, cemetery, military service, Shelby high school yearbooks, city directories, and history of Richland County, as well as other surrounding Ohio counties. Visitors and researchers are always welcome. Just stop by the front desk to sign in, when visiting the Marvin Room. This room may also be reserved. Call 419-347-5576 or stop at the Circulation Desk.
